English as a Second Language (ESL) - Spring 2008 Courses

We offer easy access, comfort and convenience!

WestConn’s ESL Adult Certificate Program is designed with the working student in mind. Classes are conveniently scheduled around a four-part program that not only offers the “nuts and bolts” of English, but also immerses the student in the sound, culture and history of the language.

Students register for the following courses:

Essentials of English is an intermediate course focusing on effective grammar, reading and writing. Whether you need to brush up on your English language skills, or just evaluate your strengths and weaknesses, this course will put you on the right track in a relaxed, friendly
environment.

The English Experience, an advanced course that prepares the student for college-level English courses, offers an emphasis on constructive conversation, research methods, composition and grammar usage. Students in this course deliver a presentation on a topic important to them.
American culture, history, and the role of immigrants in society will be topics of concentration.

Effective Speech and Pronunciation emphasizes the importance of proper speech as it teaches how to utilize the vast resources available to students wishing to understand linguistics and articulation. Correct usage of the American dictionary is covered as a key tool for learning the “building blocks” of words.
